Kick-Off of the Climate E-Bus: Together for a Sustainable Future

On January 22, 2025, the launch of a groundbreaking project took place at the Friedrich Streib Campus in Coburg: the Climate E-Bus. Initiated by Coburg University of Applied Sciences, Verpa GmbH, the City of Coburg, and SÜC Bus und Aquaria GmbH, this collaborative project sends a powerful message in the fight against the climate crisis.

Verpa Folie: Main Sponsor with a Clear Commitment to Climate Protection

As the main sponsor, Verpa Foil emphasizes its leading role in sustainability. The specially wrapped E-Bus, adorned with the striking “Warming Stripes” – a visual symbol of global temperature rise – will not only operate in Coburg’s local transport network but also serve as a mobile event space. This is designed to raise public awareness of the urgency of the climate crisis and present solutions.

The bus is the result of the belief that societal change is only possible through collaboration and education. The four project partners have combined their efforts to send a visible and impactful message: climate protection begins locally, through commitment and role modeling. A Strong Signal from the Region

The event at the Friedrich Streib Campus brought together numerous high-ranking representatives, including Coburg’s First Mayor Dominik Sauerteig and the President of Coburg University, Prof. Dr. Stefan Gast. Gast emphasized how important it is to raise awareness for sustainable action—especially in times when climate protection risks being pushed to the background. “The Climate E-Bus is a powerful reminder that we need to do more!” said Gast.

Mayor Sauerteig also underlined that climate protection is a task that can only be tackled together, and he thanked all those involved for their commitment.

In his address, Managing Director André Baumann took the opportunity to clearly express Verpa’s forward-thinking philosophy. He stressed that protecting the environment and conserving resources is not just compatible with economic interests, but actually forms their very foundation. Sustainable practices create the basis for a stable economy—a principle that is particularly important for small and medium-sized enterprises. Baumann also pointed out that climate protection is not possible without plastics, as they remain essential in many areas, such as the safe storage and transportation of food, helping to reduce waste and resource loss. At Verpa, environmental and climate protection go hand in hand with economic responsibility—an approach that is impressively reflected in the development of innovative and environmentally friendly packaging solutions.

Coburg Joins the Network of Climate Cities

With the Climate E-Bus, Coburg joins the ranks of progressive cities like Tübingen and Leipzig, which have already implemented similar initiatives. The E-Bus is not only a symbol of sustainable mobility but also an active educational tool designed to have an impact beyond the region.

We are proud to support this project as the main sponsor and to make a meaningful contribution toward a more climate-just future. The Climate E-Bus marks a milestone—for Coburg, for the region, and for the joint fight against the climate crisis.
